Children and Youth Ministries

Mission Statement
To provide a caring community to guide and mentor children and youth to know, love and follow Jesus Christ, and to help equip the family in becoming life-long committed Christians.

Faith Development
At South-Broadland we believe that faith development is vital to a child's well being. We are committed to providing a safe environment where children are able to connect with caring adults and experience the love of Jesus.

Kids Under Construction
Kids Under Construction provides an opportunity for children in kindergarten through sixth grade to learn about Jesus through the Bible, music, crafts, and fun activities. KUC is offered during the 9:15 a.m. celebration worship service. The children attend a portion of the worship service with their parents and then are dismissed with their teachers to their classes on the second floor.

Birth - 4 Years
Quality nursery care is provided for both of our worship services. It is our goal to provide a safe, nurturing environment for our young children, as well as an opportunity for the children to learn about God's love through age-appropriate Bible lessons, songs, and crafts.

Youth
SBPC is committed to a dynamic youth ministry where young people connect with God and with each other. We have a growing ministry to youth on Wednesday nights for mid and senior high youth. The youth choir for ages 10-17 also meets on this night and sings in the 9:15am Celebration Service every third Sunday of the month. We also have special monthly fellowship and fun activities such as bowling, skating, and game night. Today's youth face a variety of challenges and opportunities. Our goal is to surround them with a loving community of faith that strengthens, inspires, and challenges them with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Youth ministry is about building relationships. We seek to do that in a way that crosses generations and races in a grace-filled community of Christ.

Weekday Ministries

Rainbow School
Rainbow School was established in 1982 as a mission of South-Broadland to provide early childhood care, training and love in a Christian environment for the community. We maintain active membership and involvement in the Christian Preschool Association and other professional organizations. The facility is inspected annually for health and safety through the state of Missouri as a license-exempt program.

Early Childhood Education Center
Ages 2 months to 5 years From September through July, part-time quality care is offered for infants, toddlers and preschool age children. The hours of operation are 9:30am to 2:15pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. We respect each of God's children as special and unique and strive to guide them in their developmental growth.

Over the Rainbow
Kindergarten through 4th Grade Each summer we provide full-time elementary school-age care. The program operates from 7:30am to 6pm June through August. Over the Rainbow offers many field trips, music, and art with a special emphasis on reading and writing. We encourage personal responsibility, supporting family values and harmony in a diverse world.

Connections - Grades 5 - 7
Only students who have successfully completed our Over the Rainbow program are invited to participate in Connections. Although the design of the Connections program varies from summer to summer, the overall goals remain the same. These are: to encourage working within a team, recognize the needs of others, enhance self-esteem, and provide a safe and enriching experience for those youth while their parents are working.

T-ball and baseball
T-ball and machine pitch baseball are favorite ways to meet families in our community. We are committed to providing non-competitive leagues that are safe places for children to learn good sportsmanship and to grow in self-esteem. T-Ball is for children who are going into kindergarten - completing second grade. Machine pitch is for older grade school children. The season starts the first week of June and runs to the end of July.

Camp Ministries
Each summer many of our children and youth choose to attend summer camps at Heartland Presbyterian Center located near Parkville, Missouri. Summer camp provides a unique opportunity for children and youth to connect with God. Surrounded by God's creation the campers are guided through morning devotions and evening worship. During the week the campers will be a part of a small group that provides Christian community, and opportunities for new friendships.

More Fun for Children

Vacation Bible School - Children participate in fun and creative activities such as music, drama, Bible study, crafts and snacks to aid in their spiritual growth. Registration begins in the spring.

Annual All Church Picnic - Families are invited to attend the All Church Picnic in early June. Following the worship service we gather for a time of hot dogs, hamburgers, fun, and fellowship.

Safe Trick-or-Treat
Safe Trick or Treat – Children can enjoy the holiday on the grounds and in the decorated classrooms of the church, where members of the church offer trick or treating, games, crafts and positive and friendly fun for children in the community.

Children's Christmas Program - Children ages 3 through 8th grade participate in a musical and dramatic program. Practice begins in November and the program is presented during the regular worship service on a Sunday in December.
